Hi all,
Before I share Chapter 6 of my illustrated memoir project, Resume Gap, a couple of things:
I read this interview with Merve Emre and have a lot to say about it! Sadly, because I don’t write 9-12 hours a day like she does (one of our many differences), it’s going to take me a while to get my thoughts down. In the meantime, however, here’s a chapter of my illustrated memoir project, in which I write about motherhood and my young children! (I’m being a little snarky here because in the interview, Emre kind-of-sort-of shames writers for writing transparently about their kids. It’s all a little funny (touchy?) because the interviewer introduces the interview by saying that maybe the conversation will be a “provocation” for some writers and well, yeah! It definitely provoked me… to keep sharing this memoir project. Ha.)
Re: this chapter, if you haven’t read the previous ones, just bear in mind that I wrote/drew the bulk of it in 2019/2020, and so therefore, in it, my kids are much younger (I’m much younger!) and I’m still doing my now-defunct podcast, Mom Rage.
FYI: This post will be truncated if you’re reading it in your email browser.
I kind of want to say more—always!—but I’m gonna stop myself there so I can get back to my rewrite. Xox
Amelia
Oh my gosh, cliffhanger. What happens next?? I loooooove this and it gives me all the feels. What is a Penelope!! Do I matter? Someone is going to take down that “provocative” article! (I started to formulate a response/essay to it, and my blood pressure threatened to burst my tender head. I stopped and went outside for a walk. Blood boiler!) Also: Odysseus! And poor old Amelia outside the Y in PA ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 Makes me think that just picking up our kids is healing the world in some way (some days this is my most heroic act). Xoxoxo thank you for this! Your first part of the day Deep Thought work and Clarissa “home” stuff is soooooo good. 💘 that swimming illustration!
